Certified Sustainability Officer
DEFINITION: A Green officer is the liaison for Green and sustainable programming for the business, but this person may also be a layman or relatively untrained, though generally knowledgeable. The Certified Sustainability Officer is a trained individual working within the company to produce a tailored and effective sustainability policy and plan."
THE DEFINING TASK: The core discipline for the CSO is to establish a baseline of present performance based upon a study of the company, and then assist in the development of a sustainability policy and plan for the company that stretches over the year in defined steps. The sustainability plan is always a "work in Progress," but tied to actual monthly progress reviews.
Why pay for an outside consulting firm to develop a sustainability plan for your company when it is best accomplished through your trained staff? This is the formula spelled out in the recent executive order, and the smart way to develop your company's Green and sustainable program. Fortunately, your Green officer need not take time off work to earn this trademark certification. This program is offered online through extensive text and video training.

Green is more than a trend. It is becoming a business imperative. Companies must be Green to survive in business over the next few years. However, a Green company does not come from a box. It is the result of professional involvement by a Sustainability Officer, and it seems certain that every business must train and install a Green officer! This career must certainly be America's most secure job.
The Post-2012 Era
Since the Kyoto Accord, every five years, the pressure increases on environmental conformity. The WRI (World Resource Institute) refers to the next five year cycle as "Post-2012 Climate Agreement" See link What is headed our way is a slew of new regulations, contract demands, and business-related requirements. What we need are trained professionals to provide the leadership for this challenge.
As you know, I have been the Sustainability Officer for the Caribe Hilton for the past three years and this year I began to look for a company that offered a certification for CSO. During my search I was recommended to the course from EEC. I looked it up, and as I read the companies profile, I said "This is just what I have been looking for, a prestigious company that can provide me with the recognition, certification and, support to become a CSO." I registered for the course and as I began studying I was absorbed by its content so much wonderful information and facts, all my questions began to took the training, and it gave me the confidence to continue with my mission "To make a difference in the conservation of our Natural Resources and to help and educate others to do the same." I have to say thank EEC for providing me with the tools so I can help build a better tomorrow.
I had lost my job because my department was downsized. The whole thing was simply devastating. I felt that I had lost so much in just that one day. I was determined to look for a job that would never get downsized again. Jobs were scarce, but I found a niche that nearly no one else could match. I became a CSO for a great company, and I am part of something wonderful
After my training, I decided to go after my dream job; so I added CSO to my resume, and went after my new career. It took a while, but I kept reaching for something I knew was meant for me. When the company saw Certified Sustainability Officer on my resume, they practically gave up looking at other candidates. I was given the job the very next day. It is frankly, the best job I have ever had!
If you're looking for a good job; don't go back to school to learn a career with low pay and heavy competition. The CSO role is a manager or executive position in most companies, and brings a salary of $50,000 to $90,000 in many cases. But this is not a job for amateurs. Your CSO training will prepare you to walk in and do an outstanding job from the very first day.
In smaller businesses, the owner may also be the Green officer for the company. Why pay a specialist to do what can be done in-house if you are trained to prepare and implement your own sustainability plan? Why should I let large companies outpace me when it comes to Green contracts and a great way to promote the integrity of my company? I took the CSO course, and in time; I plan to send my son through the course. He will pick up a heritage that I am passing on to others.
We have all types taking the CSO course, but there is one thing that they all share. They know that "Green is In, and Green is How Companies will Grow" in the future. Some wonder why a smaller company cares about Going Green. We'll, when I see my son and think of him and the future of my grandchildren; it just seems like the best thing I can do besides provide for their financial future.
This is the symbol of a professional who knows how to work with any company to bring it into a Greener future. As a Certified Sustainability Officer, you are trained, knowledgeable, and an asset to any company. It is a knowledge that will open doors for new and better jobs, and provide an above-average income.
The good news is that the CSO program is offered online and can be taken at your own pace. The information is wonderfully well-presented and will prepare any self-executing person to provide a fantastic service to the company. In fact, if you do your job well, your efforts will actually cut operational costs, increase revenue, and make you a hero.
The Best Green Job in America
There are 30 million businesses in America; and eventually, there will be 30 million Green businesses in America! The choices are clear for how companies will install their Green program:
- They will hire a very expensive firm to do the job, and bring them back time and time again to keep the program running.
- They will greenwash and pretend to be Green, or
- They will install a Certified Sustainability Officer with little real cost and maximum return on investment.
We invite you to add Certified Sustainability Officer to your resume and strengthen your job security, or open the door for a great, Green career!"
